The Birthday Boy

Ian turned 10 on Thursday and while it's hard for me to believe that he is already a decade old, we sure had fun celebrating. In fact, the celebration stretched over two days (three if you count the sleep-over) since we wanted max time to celebrate his birthday dinner at Red Robin.

Here are some pictures of the birthday boy:

Call the fire department! 10 candles this year! Lucky I had enough. And the Culver's Cookie Dough Craving Concrete Mixer Ice Cream Cake hit the spot!

Kyra began "negotiating" with Ian from the minute we picked him up from school to be allowed to "help him" open his presents. Ian was a really good sport about it though Kyra didn't quite understand that it was Ian's birthday and not hers! Also, never let Kyra see you when you are wrapping birthday gifts as she will tell what is in them before they are even opened!

One of Ian's "top" gifts was Big Brain Academy Wii Degree.

On Friday we let Ian choose the restaurant to celebrate his birthday. It's really no surprise that he chose Red Robin as it has always been his favorite restaurant. Here he is getting his birthday sundae and song.

That's all for now!

It happened one night . . .

Ian went to bed a nine-year-old:

And woke up a TEN-year-old!

Happy 10th Birthday to my favorite little man! You still make me smile every day!

Happy Birthday, Kyra!

It's hard to believe three years have gone by since we welcomed our baby girl into our hearts and home! She makes me smile (and want to pull my hair out a lot of times, too!)

The big party is tomorrow, but she is in full birthday glory today!

Another reminder that I am getting old

Yesterday at Ian's birthday party, it was time for the cake and singing of happy birthday. Apparently, the number of candles you leave lit when you make your wish is the number of girlfriends you have (Ian has 2 if this is to be believed). Has anyone else ever heard of this? Either I am (a) living under a rock, (b) reaching a new age of pre-teen motherhood or (c)getting old!

Now that was a throwback!

Today we had Ian's birthday party at the local roller rink. YES! They still do exist in some parts of the country complete with those gaudy tan rental skates with orange wheels! Of course, there's a lot of in-line skaters too, but for the most part, everyone was wearing traditional roller skates. The music has changed a bit too. I mean, there's something missing when they play Crazy Frog's version of "We Are the Champions" rather than Queen's. I should have requested "Another One Bites the Dust" for old time's sake.

Everyone in our family donned a pair of skates - including Kyra! I was amazed at how well she took to the skates. Her favorite part was actually "falling" while one of us held her hand. By the end of the session though, she was able to move around the rink without hanging on to either of us (though we did follow closely behind her to make sure no one ran her over).

Ian loved the party even though he had a couple of hard crashes. He thought it was his best birthday party EVER!

Happy Birthday, Ian!

Oh, where does time fly? Ian is 9 years old today. It seems just like yesterday I was sitting in my doctor's office waiting patiently for my appointment when my water broke right there. Yep, I was so totally not ready for that moment but it's been a totally fun 9 years!

Of course, the weather here in NE Wisconsin is wreaking havoc on our birthday plans of traveling to the Cheesecake Factory for dinner so we have postponed it until tomorrow. Of course, Ian is thrilled because he now gets to spend quality time with his best friend and his new Wii games. Aaah, to be nine and not have a care in the world!

Happy Birthday, Buddy Bear!
