Is this really appropriate?

Since I have been on my weight loss journey, I have become a "walker" in the early mornings. I really like it even though I have to get up at the crack of dawn to do it. I have a set "route" that I take but I alterante the direction I take each day (mostly due to the fact that there is a nasty hill and I can't imagine going up that sucker every day!)

Anyhow, I will get to my point. When I walk, I stay on the public streets/sidewalks. Tonight, as I was driving back from dinner with the kids, we passed the local cemetery and lo and behold, there are two women POWER WALKING through the cemetery! It just really bothered me. While I realize that there are paved pathways throughout, I hardly find it appropriate to speed walk through the final resting places of so many. Does this strike you as an odd place to exercise?

Oh my - the irony of it all! I got on to find your 40 clove chicken recipe and saw this - just had to leave a comment! When I lived in CR, one of my most favorite places to walk and run was in a beautiful city cemetery! In fact, just this past weekend when we were back, we drove past it and I commented about exercising in the cememtery...I suppose it may seem a bit unorthodox, but it was so peaceful and quiet and I often found myself reflecting on the many lives I passed and the marvelous history surrounded me. It was a very reflective and spiritual experience for me! I always tried to be respectful and steer clear of anyone I saw who had come to pay respects. But believe me - the times I spent running and walking through the cemetery actually drew me closer God!

See, this is why I like blogging. I like to get other points-of-view that are different from my own.

I think it would depend on the circumstances. I've seen cemeteries that are set up like parks. That probably wouldn't bother me. Where my grandparents are buried, there aren't any walking paths, just narrow roads for cars to drive through. You can see across from one side of the cemetery to the other. In this case, I think it would bother me.

On a sort of funny note, a friend and I actually had a picnic on a tomb, until we realized what it was. We thought it was a park bench. We had no idea we had wandered into a cemetery on a hill (if it is any excuse, we were overseas and the area looked like a nature preserve).

I know some people walk through cemeteries where their loved ones are buried. I think it gives them a sense of closeness with them.

So I don't find it odd at all.
