Tim Gunn - I need your help!

A lot of you probably already know that I am a reality show junkie. What is it about these train wrecks that I am so compelled to watch them? Alas, I digress. My newest venture into reality TV is Tim Gunn's Guide to Style. I love Tim from his days on Project Runway. He's just so cool and you know he just tells it like it is. I keep telling Rich that I need Tim to come to my closet for a makeover - but somehow I don't see that happening.

Anyhow, now that I have lost a "bit" of weight, I really need some new clothes that don't make me look like a frumpy school marm. At the same time, I still have some more weight to lose, so I don't want to go overboard. However, I'm still in my "overweight, plus size" mindset and so I'm having trouble picturing what would even come close to looking decent on me. The other problem is that when I do actually find something I like, my practical nature takes over. I don't think I can bring myself to pay $40-$50 for a shirt that may be out of style by say, next week.

So, if anyone has any connection whatsoever to Tim, please send him my way. Otherwise, I'll continue my quest.

My suggestion (and from what I have read elsewhere, as well as heard in a little class) -- pick a neutral and just one or two colors to accent that. Then, try to buy all of your wardrobe around that, for ease in mixing and matching. That way, you have a lot more options, since you can mix a lot of things together.

Now, I broke this rule, and have mostly bought a lot of brown and black when I have shopped over the past year or so. I actually just bought 13 pieces of clothing (WOW!) a few weeks ago, and almost all of it was brown or black or mostly one of those two colors with accents of other colors. And, then I can mix a lot of those things with jeans (or a denim skirt) or whatnot too.

Good luck! I always have a horrible time finding anything that catches my eye anymore. Except -- of course -- a recent visit to Dress Barn, which is a place that I say I never find anything. But, alas, found a bunch of stuff this time, and every single darn piece was on sale or clearance. Go figure!

One thing to consider is that clothes that are form fitting are more flattering than loose clothes. Don't be afraid to show off that new body of yours! Personally, I hate clothes that are form fitting. It is amazing the comments I get when I do wear, um, tighter clothes. Also, remember that the size number doesn't matter. I recently bought two skirts and they are two different sizes-one smaller than I normally wear and the other larger than I normally wear-but they fit the same.
